Steve Zahn Family Drama ‘She Dances’ Sells to Newly Launched Distribution Company EKKL Entertainment (EXCLUSIVE)

EKKL Entertainment, a newly launched distribution company, has acquired “She Dances,” starring Steve Zahn and his daughter, Audrey Zahn. The film premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and marked the feature directorial debut of Rick Gomez.
Zahn and Gomez co-wrote the story of a parent and child attempting to repair their relationship and reconcile over a shared tragedy against the backdrop of the Young Miss Southeast Regional Dance Finals.
EKKL Entertainment said it is dedicated “to curating stories that remind us who we are, what we believe, and why we belong.” It wants to distribute audience-friendly and inspiring films.
“She Dances” also stars Mackenzie Ziegler, Rosemarie DeWitt, Sonequa Martin-Green and Ethan Hawke. The film was announced this week as an official selection of the 2026 Palm Springs International Film Festival. EKKL Entertainment has acquired all North American rights and will release the film in theaters in March 2026.
The company was founded by Michael Scott, a producer of faith and inspirational cinema whose films have collectively grossed over $200 million at the box office. His past productions include “God’s Not Dead.” EKKL Entertainment aims to release around eight films in theaters each year.
“At EKKL Entertainment, we are a creator-first studio, and we are eager to collaborate with filmmakers who are telling meaningful, values-driven stories,” said Scott. “‘She Dances’ is an ideal first acquisition for EKKL because it embodies exactly the kind of emotionally rich, beautifully crafted, character-driven storytelling we champion — grounded in the enduring values that unite families and communities. We’re excited to collaborate with the team behind the film.”
“We are thrilled for ‘She Dances’ to have a theatrical release,” Zahn and Gomez said in a joint statement. “We believe the power of the film lies in its shared experience.”
“She Dances” is produced by Gomez, Zahn, Jenny Gomez, Mandi Reno and Coby Toland for Macaroni Art Productions, with Jenifer Westphal for Wavelength and Jason Reed. Executive producers include Joe Plummer and Brevity Films’ Roland Kassis and Alyssa Schroeter.
Jessica Lacy from Range Media Partners negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers.
