Sydney Sweeney & Ana De Armas’ R-Rated Thriller Is Coming To Netflix This Month
Sydney Sweeney and Ana de Armas’ violent thriller, Eden, has finally set a Netflix release date. Directed by Ron Howard, the movie follows a group of European settlers who try to start a new life in an isolated area of the Galápagos Islands, but it soon becomes a fight for survival.
Eden was one of several movies that starred Sweeney in what has been a busy 2025 slate for the young actor. The thriller was released simultaneously with another one of her movies, Americana. Unfortunately, neither movie was a major hit, with Eden making just $2.5 million against an estimated budget of $35–55 million.
Now, Sweeney and de Armas’ thriller has a second chance to find an audience. Nearly five months after its theatrical release, Netflix recently announced that Eden will arrive on streaming on December 23, 2025.
Upon its release, the historical thriller divided critics due to the dramatization of the historical events. While positive aspects in Eden reviews note the strong performances and intriguing historical context, the criticism falls on the execution and inconsistent tone.
ScreenRant’s Mae Abdulbaki was among the critics who gave a positive review, awarding a 7 out of 10 stars. She noted de Armas’s antagonistic performance as the standout, even going on to say that the thriller would have been “far less interesting” without her.
If Eden turns out to be a streaming success, it’s a crucial win for Sweeney, who had a rough 2025 slate. In what has been a busy year for the young star, it came with diminishing returns. In addition to the box office bombs of Eden and Americana, her sports biopic, Christy, hasn’t performed well commercially. This has led to back-to-back flops within a span of five months.
The streaming release also comes at an advantage for Sweeney, who has one final 2025 movie. The Housemaid, another thriller, is set to release in theaters on December 19. Despite a tough movie year, Sweeney can at least end 2025 on a strong note.
