‘Roofman’ 4K UHD Review
Channing Tatum is a hugely talented and versatile actor. My first exposure to his work came via G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and its sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation, but in recent years he’s continued to evolve – most notably stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, with a further rumoured appearance lined up in Avengers: Doomsday.
In 2025, Tatum took on one of his most intriguing roles yet, portraying real-life spree robber Jeffrey Manchester in Roofman. Following a successful theatrical run, the film now makes its way to home viewing, with Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment releasing Roofman on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and Digital.
Based on an unbelievable true story, Roofman follows Jeffrey Manchester (Channing Tatum), an Army veteran and struggling father who turns to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, earning him the nickname: Roofman. After escaping prison, he secretly lives inside a Toys “R” Us for six months, surviving undetected while planning his next move. But when he falls for Leigh (Kirsten Dunst), a divorced mom drawn to his undeniable charm, his double life begins to unravel, setting off a compelling and suspenseful game of cat and mouse as his past closes in.
Roofman blends action and crime drama with a light touch of comedy, all topped off by a surprisingly heartfelt love story. Channing Tatum truly shines in the lead role, supported by warm, natural chemistry with Kirsten Dunst. While many films feel like a one-and-done experience, Roofman is one I’ll happily return to. It’s that rare kind of movie that lingers after the credits roll – an engaging, genuinely enjoyable ride that rewards repeat viewings.
Roofman has been transferred to 4K UHD in 2160p and presented on Blu-ray in 1080p, with a Widescreen 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The Audio options are English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD, English Audio Description and French 5.1 Dolby. Finally, there is the option for subtitles in English, English SDH, Spanish and French.
The 4K presentation looks and sounds fantastic. The recreation of the 1990s – particularly the sequences set in Toys “R” Us – is especially striking in Ultra HD, with the era brought to life in vivid, eye-catching detail. The image is crisp and clean throughout, while dialogue remains clear and well-balanced, making this an absolute pleasure to watch in 4K. That said, this release isn’t just about the film itself. There’s also a solid selection of bonus features included:
Special Features:
- Based on Actual Events and Terrible Decisions
- Chasing the Ghosts: The Director’s Methods
- A Good Place to Hide
- Driving Lesson
- Choir Practice
- Behind-the-scenes footage of actress Uzo Aduba (“Eileen”) leading a church choir rehearsal.
- Deleted and Alternate Scenes
In addition to all these bonus features, Paramount have included a 4K Digital Copy redeemable via Apple TV or Fandango at Home.
***** 5/5
I really enjoyed Roofman, and I think you will as well. Head over to Amazon and order your copy today… Be aware, the UK is NOT getting the 4K version, so you’ll just have to stick with the Blu-ray!
